Brilliant effort by charity cycle team
The Bexley Police Charity Cycle Team has raised over £30,000 for two very special causes, Cancer Research UK and The Falconwood Children’s Respite Centre. In 2007 the team rode to Paris, in 2008 to Amsterdam and on Saturday 26th September 2009 they did it all over again when 22 riders set off from the Clock Tower Bexleyheath to ride to Bruges in Belgium.
On target to raise a further £12,000
Thanks to some generous supporters, in particular Dame Vivien Duffield of the Clore Foundation, the team, who are busy collecting sponsors pledges, are on-track to raise around £12,000.
The riders, who trained in their own time and paid their own expenses, had fine weather all the way to Bruges and were met and escorted by two Bruges police motorcycle outriders for the last four miles.
On arrival, exhausted but jubilant, they were met by The Commissioner of the Bruges police department, Jean-Paul Cannaert and afforded an official reception at police HQ.
